When developing our speakers, we at Teufel leave nothing to chance. We pay particular attention to the components that ultimately produce the sound – the diaphragms.
That’s why we take it upon ourselves to test the diaphragms installed in our speakers in virtually every conceivable situation a speaker might encounter in real-world use before a new speaker or system goes on sale. For these diaphragm tests, Teufel also relies on the expertise of the renowned Klippel GmbH, based in Dresden. The measurement method developed by Klippel GmbH uses laser technology to optimize performance and reduce signal distortion. Naturally, this benefits the sound. We take a closer look at the Klippel measurement method.

Conventional measurement methods usually test diaphragms at very low volumes. For many manufacturers, that’s sufficient. But who always listens at low volumes and under laboratory conditions? At Teufel, we believe great sound should be delivered at any volume. That’s why it’s part of our DNA not to rely solely on theoretical values and conventional measurements at low power levels, but to use one of the most advanced and sophisticated measurement systems currently available – despite its high cost.

This makes Teufel one of the few German manufacturers to use these systems. A Klippel system can measure both in the millivolt range at low volumes and under full load. And that means right up to the maximum load the driver can handle – beyond which the test driver is destroyed. This provides valuable insight into the limits of what is technically possible.
These measurements therefore provide precise information on how a speaker behaves at all realistic power levels – between 1 and 100 watts. The Klippel Analyzer System makes it possible to identify faults and irregularities. Only by identifying these issues can they be corrected, turning a good driver into a perfect one. The analysis system is an integral part of speaker development at Teufel.

Laser-tested diaphragms in use in the ULTIMA series
Our customers benefit most from these extensive tests, as they can be confident that the speakers will perform exactly as intended in any situation. The same applies to the ULTIMA 20 Mk2, which is featured in the ULTIMA 20 Complete 2.1 system, available for just a few days.
