October is coming to a close and you know what that means – spooky season is upon us, and Halloween is right around the corner! Even though this day of ghostly fun is mainly celebrated in the US, it has a large number of fans and loyal followers in continental Europe, and its original homelands of Ireland and Scotland. Want to throw a spooky Halloween party and need a few tricks and tips? Then read on! We’ve put together our best and nastiest Halloween hacks especially for you. Have fun spooking your guests!

Create a Spooky Atmosphere with the Right Lighting

To terrify your party guests, the first thing you need is a spooky atmosphere. The right lighting is a great way to achieve this. Different color string lights and LED candles create a nice, dim glow. Place the LED candles in hollowed-out pumpkins, or even better, attach them to the ceiling with transparent nylon thread to make them look like they’re floating! Even your normal living room lamp can become a creepy object. Cut bats and spiders out of black construction paper and glue them to the inside of the lampshade to create eerie shadow effects.

Stage gear can also help you create the right party atmosphere. How about a compact LED moving head or an impressive fog machine, for example? Take a look around the Teufel Shop now!

Tip: You can also create a spooooky atmosphere during your Halloween party by showing old black-and-white horror movies such as Psycho, Dracula, or Nosferatu on your home theater projector. Use a white bed sheet or tablecloth as a screen for an authentic look.

Spooky Party Music for that Extra Halloween Factor

One of the most important things at a good party is the right music. So these songs are a must for your Halloween playlist:

  • I Put a Spell on You by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
  • Thriller by Michael Jackson
  • Ghostbusters Theme by Ray Parker Jr.
  • Time Warp by Little Nell, Patricia Quinn, Richard O’Brien
  • Zombie by The Cranberries
  • Psycho Killer by The Talking Heads
  • Lullaby by The Cure

If you want to really scare your guests before the party starts, you can find playlists with creepy background sounds on YouTube. With sounds of creaking doors or eerie laughter, you can turn your home into a chamber of horrors.

If you’re a vinyl fan, it’s especially cool to play some records. The occasional scratch or crackle from old records is sure to send a little shiver down your guests’ spines.

Halloween Decoration: Eerie Last-Minute Hacks

The party is just around the corner, the music is figured out, but you still need some inspiration for your Halloween decorations? Here are a few hacks that will make a big impact with very little effort.

  1. Plastic spiders everywhere: A little thing that goes a long way! You can give your guests a big scare with little plastic spiders! Just stick them on the wall, doors, or in corners where your guests won’t expect them. Especially in the dim light of the party, these creepy-crawlies look just like real spiders—screams guaranteed!
  2. Orange and white balloons: easy peasy, but always works: Buy orange and white balloons in different sizes and blow them up or fill them with helium. Use a waterproof black pen to draw funny or scary faces on them and scatter them around your home.
  3. Body outline: Last minute and zero difficulty: All you need to turn your party location into a crime scene is some masking tape. Use it to tape the outline of a body onto the floor, and your crime scene is ready!
  4. Wafting wisps of fog: A fog machine such as the beamZ S700 available from Teufel is very effective. The eerie fog creates the perfect spooky atmosphere for your party. Place the machine on the floor so that the fog wafts across the floor.
  5. Light effects: What would a swirling fog show be without the perfect lighting? With lights, you can color the fog in a spooky hue and really set the scene for your decorations. For example, place the beamZ MHL74 Moving Head or the beamZ BBP94 Battery Uplight behind your Halloween decorations and you’ll be sure to impress with professional effects.
  6. Pumpkins big and small: No time to carve a grimace? Then simply draw a face on with a waterproof pen or cover the pumpkin with black tape. Mandarins are also a fun decoration and snack in one. If you draw a face on them, they look like miniature jack-o’-lanterns.

Tip: If you like the idea of light shows and want to take your Halloween party to the next level, check out the BeamZ products in the Teufel Shop. With the beamZ DMX-384 controller, you can create an impressive light show and control everything with precision.

Spooky and delicious snacks for your Halloween party

Whether they’re zombies, werewolves, witches, or scarecrows, at some point everyone gets hungry and thirsty (for blood). To keep your party guests happy, here are a few quick snack ideas for your Halloween party.

  • Candy is a must on Halloween: simply bake some muffins and mix the lemon icing with orange or green food coloring. Sprinkle some black sprinkles on top, and your treat is ready.
  • Real finger food: Hot dogs with ketchup become chopped-off fingers with blood. To make them, cut the sausages in half and cut off a fingernail-sized piece horizontally from the round side, place an almond flake on top, and score the knuckles at the top, middle, and bottom. Add a little ketchup, and you’re done. A little gross, but also delicious!
  • Don’t forget to provide delicious drinks. Super quick to make and wonderfully spooky: fill disposable syringes with green apple or cherry juice. This way, you have refreshments and decorations in one!

Halloween costume: These tips will make it gruesome

Want to add the finishing touches to your Halloween costume? Then get your hands on some fake blood! It’s sure to scare your guests – and the red liquid can be made in no time. Our ultimate Halloween hack: homemade fake blood!

What you need for home made artificial blood:

  • 200 ml water
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • Red food dye
  • 1-2 Tbsp corn or potato starch

Mix the water with the cornstarch in a saucepan and heat gently while stirring until the mixture thickens. If it is still a little too runny, you can add a little more starch. Then remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the food coloring.

Our professional blood tip: Add some cocoa! This will prevent the fake blood from looking too artificial and give it a nice bloody dark red color. Now all you have to do is let the mixture cool down and then you can make your face and Halloween costume look really bloodthirsty. Ta-da! Or rather: BOO!

Have fun dressing up, getting spooked, and celebrating—and organizing your next Halloween party!
